It’s official! Port+, the company that manages Martinique’s Port Community System (PCS), has established itself as leader in digital technology in Martinique, and with MGI’s Ci5 service, has ushered the island into the smart port era. Tuesday 23 March marked the first time Ci5 was used to process 9 ships in the port. Today, the Fort-de-France port community is fully connected to Ci5 and enjoys all its advantages, for more efficient and secure management of goods flows.

An innovative partnership for the Caribbean

Cooperation between Port+ and MGI started in 2007 with the deployment of AP+ to process import and export container flows at the Pointe des Grives terminal and the Hydrobase. Twelve years later, Martinique professionals and Port+ have opted for Ci5 and its innovative solutions.

Ci5 has better functionalities and a better user experience than other Port Community Systems.  It also offers higher performances than its predecessor, AP+, and covers all port and inland logistics activities.

This is a new step towards modernising trade in our port community. Our users are thrilled about this new high-performance tool, which attests to the success of Ci5 in our port environment,” says Nicole Sully, Managing Director of Port+ Fort de France.

Tailored training and support

To ensure a seamless and smooth transition, MGI sent a team to Martinique for two weeks to train and assist future users. Training began on 8 March 2021 with Angélique Roditis and Sabrina Arienti from the training team, and MGI Project Manager Typhenn Biret. Altogether, 246 users were trained on the Ci5 system. These included freight forwarders, shipping agents, terminal operators, customs administration and port authority staff, who also received tailored support specifically adapted to the port community and Fort de France.

The trained users were all highly motivated to attend the presentations and were very receptive. “The users really liked the training and training materials,” says Angélique Roditis head of MGI’s training division.  “They appreciated their time with the training instructors and we were warmly received by all the users. Everyone was very attentive and observant during the training, and the atmosphere was a great reflection of the island. Martinique is definitely a great place to be!”

After two weeks of training, an MGI instructor stayed on to provide Port+ with continuing support in order to offer additional assistance to companies. In terms of user assistance, MGI put in place a 3-week start-up phase, and a dedicated team working for the port in Martinique, on Martinique time, from 2pm to 10pm (Metropolitan France time) in order to be available during local hours during and after the launch of Ci5. Port+ will also receive remote assistance for the first five years of the contract from MGI Project Manager, Elhadji Kabirou who says “A new stage in the collaboration between PORT + and MGI begins with the implementation of Ci5. During these weeks of training and support in companies, we received only good feedback from the application. MGI and PORT + continues to work in close collaboration in order to offer users the tool that best meets their expectations

Martinique has become the 7th port community to use Ci5, and will benefit from new exclusive modules,” says Rémi Julien, President of the MGI Executive Board. “The success of this project is down to the trust and professionalism of Port+ and the collective dedication of MGI staff, of whom I’m proud.”
